Saint
Joseph and Child
Half
Life-Sized, 3' Edition of 7
Also available in 20" model, Edition of 10
Installation: Our Lady of the Snow Catholic Church
Granby, Colorado
Research
shows the carpenter to have been over 70 years in age when he took on the
responsibility of Mary and Child.
This was to be a stepchild, and as such this sculpture pays tribute
not only to fathers but also to stepfathers.
It portrays unconditional love between father and son.
Models
for this sculpture included a stepfather and son.
The father, a homebuilder is also a carpenter. The infant is modeled after his newly adopted son.
Toes wiggle and a dimple adorns the child’s chin.
In
this edition, Saint Joseph tenderly cradles the Infant in broad hands with
the tools of the carpenter laid at his feet.
A prayer shawl, shown only on the 3’ version, speaks to
Joseph’s background as an orthodox Jew.
All
of our work is done in house except for the slurry mold and the bronze
pour. Half life-sized sculptures in bronze generally start at $9,000
and can take over a year to complete. Existing editions can
generally be produced more rapidly, though the supply is limited. In
the tradition of limited editions, once the edition is exhausted, the
molds are retired. Please contact the artist with your ideas
for a price estimate, and scheduling options. All prices are subject to
change without notice.
